Meet Golden Lagoon, a compact 8.4ct Australian boulder opal with a wonderful combination of earthy patterned matrix and an unexpectedly vivid concentration of colour.

The standout face immediately draws the eye to a brilliant area of electric blue and turquoise opal, sitting alongside a glowing golden-yellow patch and surrounded by natural chocolate-brown ironstone. The contrast is particularly striking, giving the impression of a tiny blue lagoon beneath a warm golden sun.

Turn the stone and an entirely different character appears. The reverse is dominated by intricate burnt-orange, caramel and deep brown patterning, crossed by fine natural seams with occasional hints of blue and green. This gives the stone interest from multiple angles rather than relying solely on its main colour patch.

At 14 x 18mm, Golden Lagoon is a versatile size for jewellery and would make a particularly attractive small pendant or an unusual statement ring, with the vivid blue-and-gold face providing a natural focal point.
