Meet Blue Ember, a characterful 6.4ct Australian boulder opal combining beautifully detailed earthy patterning with small but intense flashes of precious opal.

The polished face is filled with natural formations in golden ochre, caramel and deep chocolate brown, creating an almost fossil-like landscape of rounded pockets, fine outlines and swirling organic shapes. Nestled amongst them are concentrated seams of precious opal that suddenly ignite with electric blue and violet as the stone catches the light.

One of the most striking areas is the vivid blue seam running between the darker patterned sections. Although relatively small, its saturated colour stands out dramatically against the warm ironstone, like a glowing blue ember hidden within the earth.

The stone also has plenty of visual interest beyond its flashes of colour, with individual patterned sections resembling tiny abstract pictures captured naturally within the matrix. At 16 × 10mm, its compact freeform shape would lend itself particularly well to a distinctive ring or smaller pendant.
