Meet Violet Window, a compact 4.3ct Australian boulder opal with a wonderfully unusual geometric shape and contrasting areas of precious opal set naturally within warm ironstone.

Across the polished face, rich golden ochre and chocolate brown ironstone surrounds irregular seams and pockets of opal. The standout colour is a deep blue-violet, appearing in concentrated flashes through the centre of the stone and becoming particularly vivid as the viewing angle changes.

Turn the stone and another side of its character appears, with a larger area of soft milky opal carrying delicate blue and lavender tones wrapped around a natural island of brown ironstone. This contrast between the pale opal, dark matrix and intense violet flashes gives the stone a surprisingly varied appearance for its compact size.

Its near-square 9 x 9.9mm shape is especially appealing and would make an unusual centre stone for a ring, or a distinctive small pendant. The natural ironstone inclusions remain an important part of the design, giving the piece an unmistakably organic Australian boulder opal character.
