Meet Ember Cathedral, a striking 21ct Australian boulder opal with an intricate natural pattern that resembles a glowing ancient relic or a miniature cathedral window carved into the earth. The polished face is dominated by warm amber, honey, burnt orange and deep chocolate-brown matrix, creating a rich earthy canvas for the precious opal within. Running through the stone are dramatic ribbons and pockets of colour, flashing electric blue, violet, turquoise and brilliant golden-orange as the opal moves through the light. What makes this piece particularly captivating is its unusual internal composition. The precious opal forms elongated, organic sections that almost appear like fragments of stained glass embedded within the darker ironstone. Some areas glow with cool blue and violet, while others erupt into intense orange and golden-yellow, creating a beautiful contrast between fire and ice. The reverse face reveals even more character, with broad areas of luminous blue, violet and fiery orange interwoven through the natural brown matrix. From different angles, entirely new colour patterns emerge, giving Ember Cathedral remarkable visual depth and movement. Its compact 16 x 26mm freeform shape makes it especially versatile for jewellery. The strong vertical composition would lend itself beautifully to a distinctive pendant, statement ring or bespoke handcrafted setting, while preserving the natural character of the stone.
