Meet Desert Tapestry, a striking 12.6ct natural Australian boulder opal with an unusually long, elegant form and an extraordinarily intricate pattern preserved within its ironstone matrix.
Running almost the full 38mm length of the stone is a remarkable network of swirling rings, ripples and interlocking shapes in golden ochre, warm caramel and deep chocolate brown. The pattern has an almost topographical appearance, resembling ancient contours, fossil formations or a landscape viewed from above.
Scattered throughout the richly patterned ironstone are tiny seams and pockets of precious opal. As the stone moves through the light, flashes of electric blue, turquoise and vivid green suddenly emerge between the earthy layers. Some appear as minute pinpoints, while others form brighter little streaks, giving the stone an intriguing sparkle without overwhelming its exceptional natural pattern.
The elongated 9 x 38mm shape is one of Desert Tapestry’s defining features. Slim, beautifully proportioned and highly distinctive, it would make an exceptional vertical pendant in which the complete landscape-like pattern could remain visible. Its unusual proportions could also inspire a particularly creative bespoke jewellery design.
Available as a loose gemstone or for a bespoke jewellery commission with our silversmith.
