Discover Desert Cathedral, a natural Australian boulder opal weighing 13.2 carats and measuring approximately 15mm x 26mm. This unusual gemstone combines glowing golden-brown ironstone with an intricate concentration of natural pattern and precious opal colour.
Its most distinctive feature is a remarkable cluster of rust-red, orange and cream formations divided by dark ironstone and illuminated by fine flashes of violet and blue. The effect is reminiscent of tiny panels of stained glass, with individual pockets of earthy colour appearing outlined and separated within the stone.
Turn the gemstone and its character changes considerably. Areas of golden ironstone catch the light while concentrated pockets and fine seams of blue and violet emerge from different angles, making this a stone that rewards being viewed in motion.
Polished on both sides, Desert Cathedral offers two different natural compositions within a single gemstone. Its elongated freeform shape, substantial 13.2-carat weight and highly individual pattern would make it an exceptional centrepiece for a handcrafted pendant or another bespoke jewellery design.
It is available to purchase as a loose gemstone or can be selected for commission work with our silversmith.

Please note: Opal colours and patterns may appear different depending on the lighting and viewing angle. Every natural opal is unique.
