Meet Violet Ember, a distinctive 13.4-carat Australian boulder opal measuring approximately 26mm x 16mm.

The display face has a wonderfully earthy character, with warm ochre and deep chocolate-brown host rock surrounding pockets and seams of precious opal. As the stone moves through the light, flashes of intense violet, purple and electric blue appear across one side, providing a striking contrast to the warm natural tones.

At the centre is a textured golden-ochre formation that gives the stone an almost geological landscape appearance. Small areas of colour appear between and around the natural matrix, rewarding movement and changing viewing angles rather than presenting as one continuous field of colour.

The reverse reveals the stone’s natural conglomerate, sandstone-like backing. Rather than precious opal, this side is appreciated for its geological character: rounded dark fragments sit within a warmer matrix, crossed by attractive golden-orange and honey-coloured streaks. It is a beautiful natural feature in its own right and gives a fascinating view of the material in which the opal formed.

The elongated freeform shape and substantial 13.4-carat size would lend themselves particularly well to a statement pendant, while a bold custom ring could showcase the vivid violet-blue flashes on the principal face.
